What Is The Military Competency Test ?

The military competency exam gives rated or soon to be rated military aviators their civilian (FAA) certificate based on recent military training or experience.

Who Should Take The Military Competency Test ?

Any military aviator is eligible to take the exam. Recency of experience in specific platforms will determine which ratings you will receive.

Which FAA Ratings Will I Get ?

If you will be winged in helicopters and flew T-34s for primary you will receive the following FAA ratings:

Commercial Pilot-Airplane Single Engine Land - Rotorcraft Helicopter- Instrument Airplane and Helicopter


If you will be winged in helicopters but flew T-37s for primary you will receive the following FAA ratings:

Commercial Pilot-Airplane Multi-Engine Land Limited to Center Thrust- Rotorcraft Helicopter- Instrument Airplane and Helicopter


If you will be winged in multi-engine aircraft with center thrust (ie F-15s) you will receive the following FAA ratings:

Commercial Pilot-Airplane Multi-Engine Land Limited to Center Thrust- Instrument Airplane


Which Test Should I Take ?

If you received your training after primary in helicopters, take the Military Competency Helicopter Test (MCH)

If you received your training after primary in fixed wing aircraft, take the Military Competency Airplane test (MCA)

How Can I Pay ?

The ground school class is $130, payable by cash or check. The MILCOMP test is $90 which can be paid by cash, check, visa, or mastercard.

Where Is Pensacola Aviation Located ?

Pensacola Aviation is located on the SE side of the Pensacola Regional Airport at 4145 Jerry L. Maygarden Rd. which can be reached from Summit Blvd, and also Spanish Trail Road.

How Long Will It Take ?

If one ground school class is held, the class begins at 0800 with testing usually starting when class ends around 1000. Should the number of registrations necessitate a second ground class, it will begin between 1100 and 1130.

How Does The MILCOMP Class Work ?

In this two hour training class you will receive refresher instruction that will help you complete the milcomp test. Areas of instruction include airspace, Federal Aviation Regulations, and certificate privledeges.

How Does The Testing Work ?

The MILCOMP test is administered using the LaserGrade Computer Testing System. You will have 2 hours to take the 50 question test.

What Do I Need To Bring ?

You will need to bring the following items:

FTN (FAA Tracking Number)
Password
Photo ID
Military Logbook
Pilot certificate if you have one
Student pilot certificate if you have one
FAA medical certificate if you have one
Official military records documenting training in the category and class of aircraft that you are applying for, If you have already been winged, bring your certificate of designation
